QuickSpoofer lets you choose the coordinates returned by the browser’s Geolocation API on supported websites. It does not change your device’s GPS or IP address. This policy describes how the current extension handles information.
Information stored in your browser
QuickSpoofer stores selected and draft coordinates, location names and accuracy, favorites, recent location selections, enabled status, timer expiry, and site rules in your browser’s local extension storage. Site rules include the hostnames you explicitly enter. Recent selections are locations chosen in the extension, not a record of websites visited.
These settings are not synchronized by the extension or sent to a QuickSpoofer server. The current release does not require an account, process payments, include analytics or advertising trackers, or collect browsing history, webpage content, passwords, or personal communications. It reads the current frame’s hostname locally to apply the appropriate site rule.
Your current location
On first use without a saved selection, and when you press the current-location button, QuickSpoofer requests one location reading from the browser to center the map. Browser and device permissions control whether a reading is available. The coordinates are stored locally as your draft selection. If a reading is unavailable, the picker defaults to New York. The location override remains off until you activate it.
Displaying a map centered on your current location sends map-tile requests that reveal that area to the map provider. The browser or operating system may use its own location services under its own privacy policies.
External map and place-search services
The current package requests map images from OpenStreetMap’s tile service at tile.openstreetmap.org. These requests reveal the map area being viewed, your IP address, and ordinary network request information to the provider.
If a submitted place search does not match a built-in city, the extension sends the search text to the Photon service at photon.komoot.io, operated by Komoot. That provider receives your query, IP address, and ordinary network request information. Avoid entering sensitive personal information into place searches. Built-in city matching does not require an external search.
These providers handle requests under their own policies: OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy and Komoot privacy policy. Their retention practices are controlled by them; QuickSpoofer does not control or promise deletion of their logs.
Information received by websites
When an override is active, supported websites requesting browser geolocation receive your selected coordinates, accuracy, and a timestamp. Those websites may store this information under their own policies. Turning the override off restores normal browser geolocation behavior, including its permissions and possible errors. Turning it off does not erase information already received by a website.
Why permissions are needed
- Storage: remembers your local locations and settings.
- Alarms: stops an override when your chosen timer expires.
- Geolocation: centers the picker using your current location.
- HTTP and HTTPS website access: installs the packaged geolocation override and settings bridge on supported pages and frames, and applies site rules.
Use, sharing, and sale of data
Information is used to provide the location picker and browser location override. QuickSpoofer does not sell user data, transfer it to data brokers, use it for personalized advertising, or use it for creditworthiness or lending decisions. External map/search requests and the selected coordinates returned to requesting websites are used for the extension’s disclosed functionality.
QuickSpoofer’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Retention and your controls
Local settings remain until you remove them, erase extension data, or uninstall the extension. You can remove individual favorites and site rules, turn off an override, or use Privacy → Erase local QuickSpoofer data to reset the extension’s stored settings. Browser-managed extension storage is normally removed when the extension is uninstalled.
For privacy questions or requests to access, correct, or delete information held by the operator, email treveralansturgis@gmail.com. The operator cannot access or remotely erase your locally stored extension settings. If you contact support, your email address and message are received and used to respond and resolve your request. Do not send passwords or sensitive location histories.
